If it was ad-hoc and allowed raw file transfer, I could use it with my Jobo Giga Vu Pro Evolution and forget about having to swap cards and manually download. If it had these facilities it WOULD be a contender to the CaNikon wi-fi capability. As it is, it's of limited use to a jobbing pro-tog (just my two-cents).

Re: How to Download Photos with Eye-Fi without an Internet Connection

*For anyone that needs a really portable setup*

We transfer photos from Eye-Fi cards to tablet pc's (XP not Vista) using ZyXEL AG-120 PCMCIA cards configured as software access points. The only real trick is to use Internet Connection Sharing to share your LAN or other wireless Internet connection with the AG-120 so that you can configure the Eye-Fi card correctly. Any wireless adapter that can do software access points should IMO.

Re: How to Download Photos with Eye-Fi without an Internet Connection

Tested eyefi with a Simultaneous connection Linksys router cable modem off and verison broadband connected on my hp laptop the eyefi still worked so you can have broadband internet access and the router will still work....

Re: How to Download Photos with Eye-Fi without an Internet Connection

I do a lot of event/night club photography I use express digital darkroom pro and shoot tethered this seems to be the perfect solution I've tested the eyefi with the linksys n/ultra rangeplus router modle WRT160N and it works great 5-6 second uploads and setting the eyefi folder as the hot folder in darkroom the pictures are ready to print and edit in seconds. The router was upstairs and my laptop and camera was downstairs I was still able to upload ..it took a few extra seconds. I turned off the router disconnected the internet powered back up and everything worked fine I highly recommend it one great plus it works in most cameras I have a D80 and D300 its very flexable you don't need a expensive camera to upload images

Re: How to Download Photos with Eye-Fi without an Internet Connection

I (sort of) apologize...(didnt read all posts first)

I thought of using the device for ONLY the exact post that #2 (John Walsh) said....and was disappointed that this is not its main invention.

I was eager to ask it so I posted...before reading.

Now that I have read back and see that John thought the same thing as me. It would be ideal for an application to rescan a directory for new pictures instead of caching images. The kaptech app cites that is possible however each screen saver app thus far will only update after restarting the program. Fernando, your idea with online picture frame is genius, Great work.

Re: How to Download Photos with Eye-Fi without an Internet Connection

Russell & Troy:
This one seems to work and has modest system requirements and command line options. http://www.kaptech.co.uk/Pi...
The slideshow from phanfare.com is very nice and much better featured, but I'm already invested in flickr.
