I mean yay for spreading the joy of photography, but the popularity of iphones and camera phones mean that people will be less likely to go the distance to get high-quality cameras, limiting the growth of their skill. I understand that the best camera is the one that's with you, but we should at least be given the opportunity to have a BETTER best. Hopefully this changes.

Re: The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

Hey, for some of us, the camera IS an always-present device used in everyday documentation. :)

Re: The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

wow! i would have thought the D80 to be alittle higher! maybe not higherthan theCanon's but really?! It's come close to destroying photojournalism as a profession. There's something to be said for trained people doing something they're paid for. Yet it's also given people in the right place at the right time a chance to document once-in-a-lifetime images.

Like damn near everything, it's a double edged sword.

R. Think of how much of our grandparents lives we don't have photos of, because in 1943, no one brought their camera to a grocery store! Now we do! What a treat for future generations.

Re: The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

"Quality not quantity", as my teacher always used to say.

Re: The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

It's not what you've got, it's how you use it! I think for the vast amount of people, cameras are used for capturing moments. There is nothing easier than snapping an iPhone shot. And with so many cool apps available, it is possible to process your shots to make them more artistic. It's no 5DMKII, but how easy is it to cram that beast in your pocket :-P

Re: The Most Popular Camera is now… a phone?!

If people think an iphone is 'good enough' then they have very low expectations. Many of the iphone pics I see on Flickr aren't even good enough for you to be able to see the things mentioned in the title.
